Classic or Fantastic?

Foyer of Palace of Culture
Piața Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt nr.1, Iași, România
The Palace of Culture offers elegance at neo-Gothic dimension and a fascinating diversity in the hundreds of rooms that today host much of the city's history. This elegance can be observed from a new perspective within the Classix Festival right in the foyer, highlighting the border between classical and mythological elements.
The protagonist of this journey is the Selini Quartet. Being registered as a residency ensemble of Vienna, the ensemble will take us to a rather darker side of the Austrian land. The nocturnal detail can be observed both due to the spectacularity of the chosen programme and to the contemporary vision of what a stage for a string quartet means. By combining visual art in concept, the evening experience will be felt in an eclectic way.
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) - Quartet No. 11 in F minor, op. 95 (1810)
Being of small size, the work presents aesthetic attributes such as shocking, nervous, unpredictable, impetuous and dramatic, all of which are representative of the great Beethovenian oeuvre.
Viktor Ullmann - String Quartet No. 3 (1943)
Many musicologists today consider this third quartet to be the instrumental masterpiece of Ullmann's compositions. The work is designed in a single movement, divided into four sections that mirror the classical structure of a string quartet.
Felix Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847) - String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, op. 80 (1847)
The quartet in F minor was published after the death of the composer, and the audienceis introduced from the beginning in the hectic atmosphere in which it was created.
Coming from Russia, Romania and Greece, the four musicians met in Vienna, where they formed the Selini Quartet in 2016. Since then, they have been performing around Europe and have won prestigious awards. All these have now led the Selini Quartet to be selected to represent Austria's music scene across the world, through the "NASOM - New Austrian Sound Of Music" program, for the seasons 2020-2022.
The Selini Quartet is a prizewinner of the “Szymanowski International Music Competition” 2018 (Poland)- 2nd prize as well as of the “Artis Quartet Prize” of ISA Competition (Austria).
In the summer of 2019, the quartet has been invited to teach at the “Toppen International Summer Academy”(Norway), as well as to participate in the Chamber Music Residency program of “Festival d’Aix en Provence” (France, 2019).
